Phil Klanderud -- Mn State Service Rife champion

Phill Klanderud ignored the cold rain at NorthStar Rifle Club in Red Wing, MN and won the Mn State Service Rile Championship. Phill has been a long time member of the MN St. Service Rifle team and a top competitor for many years.

Scott Brabec won his Bronze Leg medal and the leg points that go with it.

Mn Mid Range Prone Champ results

This weekend's prone Mid Range Championships were affected by rain on saturday during the Iron sight matches, and by just plain beautiful weather on sunday.

In the NRA Sling shooting Class, Brian Mrnak fired an almost perfect 599/600 on Saturday despite rain delays and hot humid weather, and then backed up this championship effort in Sunday with a 596/600 to win the Any sight matches and clinch the Regional championship.

In the F-class division, Ben Winget, fired a 590 on Saturday while just getting warmed up, and then bettered that impressive score, with a 595 on Sunday and took the combined FTR and F-open championship. That was great shooting on those unforgiving f-class targets. Pat Scully, who dropped only 4 pts behind Ben, on Saturday, fired X for X, and 10 for 10 with Ben on Sunday, and at the end of the day took back one important point of Ben's lead. Pat's 596 score was good for the days match win. They both shot 33 Xs during the 60 shots for record That's 55% Xs !

Boys, right now there is a computer waiting to spit out your in-processing info at Camp Perry. It will tell you where and when you'll be shooting.....are YOU ready???
Have you checked over your cart and or stool for loose bolts, hardware, flat tires, torn bags, old brass or anything that would add excess weight or slow you down? Trigger weighed and tagged?
Are your processes in order for where your data book is and how/if you'll use it? Extra ECIs? Extra pens? Did you start hydrating immediately upon waking? What is your breakfast to be if any?
Do you know where Viale and Rodriguez are? Do you know your rotation? Are you shooting first? Do you have a blinder for offhand and the inevitable sun in your right eye?
Is your gun running? Do you have an oil bottle? Is your rifle clean/ dirty/ slightly fouled to shoot it's best? Is there powder in each case? Seriously, I DO weigh each cartridge before I go.....yeah yeah I know. Is the sling solid or ripped and questionable? Extra sling?
Are you using new boots/ shoes and how do they feel in sitting? Did your position change? Have you been walking or stressing yourself in the heat to get used to Perry? Are you prepared to possibly scorekeep for some of America's Finest Riflemen? Be professional. They will return in kind.Do you know who you are riding with? Make contacts now!!

Camp Perry housing for Team Members

Boys, I received a call today inquiring about Perry housing. I directed said individual to the proper resource who is...........Larry Weidell (see header). He has arranged housing the last two years, and a great job I must say. It appears that we are growing in numbers so if you haven't yet, E-MAIL LARRY SOONEST so he can get an accurate count.
Also, if you need some brass for IT practice we still have some available and I will get it to you via UPS. This is for shooters with firm intent on attending Perry and representing Minnesota. Time to get that stuff shined and prepped cuzz we start shooting on the grass in April. We have a great new opportunity with the 300 yard reduced matches at MRC this year too.
Excellent pits and an even better match director, Mark Rohmann. The 300 yard SF target is the 600 reduced. POSITION POSITION POSITION!!! I have loaded some 53gr Hornady bullets for this. The wind is a bit tricky there and the lighter bullets should keep me on my toes. Yeah yeah I know it sounds strange......but we'll see who's laughing after Perry.

See you all soon somewhere, remember MRC 300 meter prax matches too. Short of that, get some dryfiring in........or at least some visualization.

Good Question

Gentlemen, Kurt Moline posed a question to me about the Infantry match and using 30 round mags. I say go ahead and try it dry-firing and if it works in practice go for it. The problem some of us had was with lower prone positions. We simply couldn't get the mag out of the way and we felt that the reload time was offset by the less stable position.
HOWEVER!! Some of you may have developed a higher position that will facilitate the 30 round mag. Since the snow is here for a while and we are all dry-firing regularily (we are, aren't we?) give it a run. I will be spending some more time with the web sling this winter too.
While we are on the subject; I was just dry-firing and realized that my dental floss repair to my 5 year old glove is undone. Maybe we all better take a gander at our gear and make sure we're ready to go. Check the sling swivel attachment as those rivets can come loose. How's your sling? Cracked? Need breaking in? Are you taking up some holes due to excessive stretching? How about that magazine that you had trouble with? Is it fixed or did you give up and toss it? Make SURE (double sure) that your IT mags are all tip-top. During practice sessions I plan to fill mine w/20 rounds just to check cycling. During rapid prax I can shoot the reload with them and get a sense for their reliability. Firing pins; any pierced primers last year? Replace it now so you don't start the season with a roughened pin. How about your cleaning system. Anything new you want to try out? How's the cleaning rod itself? Got patches and solvent, oil, grease, carbide, pasters, pens, shooting stool bag with no gaping holes, attachments to cart, tires holding air, data book and/or notebook, raincover..................your prep period begins NOOOOOOW!!

Well boys, the days are getting longer and just a short time to the long drive to Perry. Just wanted to let everyone know that if you are planning to attend Perry and are a likely Infantry match shooter I have a favor to ask.

We will be loading the same recipe as last year except we'll be using Hornady 75gr HPBT bullets. Powder is 23.7gr Varget. Those of you who wish to be considered for the IT team please set aside some components and pick up some of the Hornady bullets. If you could have some ready ammo, I am asking that we do some drilling after OTC matches around the state. Likely scenario is that we shoot at 600 or 500 for 20-30 rounds with a mag change. Actual powder choice is up to you for your practice ammo, but the final recipe will be Varget. Reloader 15 is considered nearly identical so that is an option if you already have it. I will supply targets and repair faces for the clubs we practice at.

We will have another team practice in July and final team selection will be made at that time. I am loading the team ammo in the next week. There will be enough for zeroing and a full run-through during the team practice.

Prices on primers have dropped significantly since last year and are looking in good supply. Powder has dropped a bit too. I've seen the Hormady bullets on sale at Natchez and Powder Valley. 200 rounds of your own for IT practice is a reasonable number.

Monster Leg Match coming to GRRC in Sept !

It looks like Service Rifle shooters in the upper midwest area are going to have the best chance ever for earning some Leg Points. The Leg Match to be held at GRRC, Harris MN, on Sept 25th will see 21 new shooters from the MN Nat Guard participating as non-distinguished shooters, and this means there will be at least 4 legs up for grabs---and probably more. I expect to see competitors from states around to come in and try to take some of these "easy" Leg points away from local shooters. The turnout may be even bigger than we expect.

Here is part of the note Sgt. Al Schneider, sent in to let us know of his plans, and to ask for already Distinguished shooters to come and lend a hand helping his guys get through the match.

"Now for the good part (here is where you come in).... I have funding to send 21 shooters to Gopher rifle and Revolver Club in Harris for the Leg Match on September 25th. In doing so, I added a second day to their orders in order to help familiarize them with Match Conduct, Scoring, Shooting positions, and Competition equipment. I need qualified Instructors/coaches/mentors to come out and show these Soldiers a thing or two. My intent is to squad these Soldiers together (under the supervision of a Distinguished/Pres 100/MA-HM shooter) and run them through a clinic and an EIC Match (Similar to the SAFS at Perry). Of course you don't need to be a PRES 100/Dist/MA/HM shooter to help. (if you haven't legged out yet I want you to compete!) These guys will ALL be Fresh newbies who most likely have never pulled a target, so we will surely need help with pits and scorekeeping. This will be a training event for the Soldiers, but that doesn't mean we can't have fun doing it! DO YOUR PART! Come out, have fun, teach, compete, and meet some of the guys that will be heading downrange in 2011.

As many of you might have heard, the 1st Brigade Combat Team (BCT) of the 34th Infantry Division has been alerted to go into harm's way once again in 2011.

"The Northstar Rifle Club wishes to challenge club teams to a mid range shootin' contest to determine the "best" overall prone rifle club team in Minnesota or any other states. State association and pick up teams are welcome; but our goal is to have club vs. club to the extent possible. Shooters wishing to participate who are not in a club or who don't have a spot on a club team may shoot a State Association or other pick up team.

Clubs will be encouraged to assemble as many teams as possible. All star teams will be welcomed but we wish to encourage club vs. club competition. The Mn. Service Rifle Team departs for Ohio on Friday, July 30th. We assemble a caravan of sorts with some riding alone and others piling into one car. We will all be on the grounds of Camp Perry by Sunday for the squadded practice. This year it will be 5 minutes of firing at 300 and ten minutes at 600. The new match director, Dennis DeMille is trying something new with this and we always welcome new.
Jade Caponi from the Mn. Guard and SSGT Al Schneider and Chief Roger Sorben will also attend. Jade will be attending SAFS for the first time and will be eligible for a 4 point EIC Leg at SAFS. He is using a borrowed rifle and will put his new skills to use with the rest of us for the President's Match on Monday and the NTI Leg on Tuesday (Aug 2 and 3). Many of our shooters are seeking EIC Leg points for the Distinguished Rifleman Badge and this is the biggest Leg Match in America. Good Luck Boys!
August 4 will be the Hearst Two- Man team match. This is a President's COF with pair firing at 200 OH and 600 slow fire prone. The 300 yard stage allows each shooter to coach the other for rapid-fire prone. The top 20 teams get a special award medal. Some of our shooters elect to take this day off to rest for Thursday's NTT six-man team match. Each team must supply two people to pull targets as well as a scorekeeper for an adjacent target. The six shooters will be finalized after Tuesday's NTI match.
Our biggest asset this year is Bob Peasley as coach. Bob decided to join us this year and we will be all ears for his wind wisdom. He can not only read the wind, but understands what tio do. Thanks from all of us Bob!
Friday will be our best shot at making an advance in annual standings with the NTIT "Rattle Battle". This rapid-fire match starts at 600 yards and advances to 500, 300 and finally 200. Each team is allowed 384 rounds divided among six shooters. Eight targets are engaged with 50 second exposures at each line. Better teams get rid of all ammo by 500 yards, but we plan on our safety valve here in case we miss the wind. Hits are worth 4 points at 600 yards, 3 at 500 and 2 at 300. Firing the match is relatively simple; Break as many good shots as you can in 50 seconds. The tough part is the coach's wind call. Too much or not enough and we get missed targets. Again Bob will be an enormous help here. Coaches may only use binoculars (10x50 max) to spot traces in this match. As we advance we eventually get to the pits to pull targets for the team behind us.
There are some sideshow matches during the week also that some will participate in. The Vintage Military Bolt/ Springfield is Friday and the M1 Garand is Saturday. Most of us will stay for the Saturday match and some will shoot the Vintage/Sprf match too.

Subject: Saturday Practice
Boys, We are getting closer to Perry and our practice is this Saturday at GRRC in Harris (and Sunday if rained out). Bob Peasley will be there on Saturday to help us get squared away and I spoke with him about his concerns and requests as to how he wants to proceed. I am grateful for his contribution to our team efforts this year.

First of all bring enough ammo!!
30 rounds for 200 (may shoot two strings sitting)
20 rounds for 300 (will shoot two strings rapid prone)20 rounds at 600 slow-fire. We are confirming zeroes and will get everyone synced on the same page here. We will sync for Infantry also.
80 rounds of Infantry ammo. If you paid Tom for ammo I will have it at practice for you. If you are making your own, we are using 23.7 Varget w/ Sierra MKs. We will be zeroing at 600 and 500 and shooting full 50 second strings at 600 and 500 with a briefer version at 300. The usual come-up from your typical 80 grain load is 2 minutes for the 77/75gr. bullet. Yes I said come-up. It's a less efficient bullet and drops a might quicker.
Be there NO LATER THAN 8:30 for briefing and instructions. There will be a need for some of us to take turns in the pits as I have only a few volunteers. We will push hard to get completed Saturday so those of you wanting to shoot Eau Claire can do that on Sunday. Bring a lunch, recording book, and all the above along w/ usual shooting stuff.
Looking forward to seeing all of you at GOPHER RRC Not Red Wing!!!! There was some confusion about this but it is at GRRC in HARRIS!!!! Got it?

Boys, I've had a few e-mails about the team practice; THE LOCATION IS GOPHER RIFLE AND REVOLVER CLUB in Harris.....NOT Red Wing!! Just to clarify.
Be prepared with ammo to fire a NMC plus some extra 600 ammo for syncing guns. Be there by 8:30 for instructions etc.

Proposed scheduleis;
9am- pairs at 200 slow-fire
9:30 begin 200 rapids w/ coach. One shooting and another shooter pre-prepping.
10:20 begin 300 rapids w/ coach "" ""
11:15 Sync guns at 600. We will all shoot on our own target at NWZ and see where everyone is. Repeat as necessary. This is where you need extra 600 ammo.....hopefully not many!!
11:30 Begin pairs at 600 slow-fire.
12:00 to 12:30 lunch
12:30 Sync guns for Infantry. (See above except we shoot 4 rounds at cadence and repeat. Note, If you paid into the team ammo fund we will have ammo there to shoot. If not, be prepared with about 75 rounds as we will run through the whole COF for IT. It may be necessary to run in squads of three shooters depending on how many volunters we get. Our team load is 77 SMK with 23.7gr Varget.)
12:40 Begin Infantry w/ one squad at 600 then 500, repeat. We will all go down to 30 and shoot in pairs if necessary. Remember that 300 yards is in the Sitting position.
Schedule subject to change.
I hope to get all done on Saturday and use Sunday as a rain day if necessary. Bob Peasley is making himself available to help on Saturday.

Team Ammo for Perry -- June 10

"Boys, Tom and I just completed loading the team ammo for the Infantry Trophy match. Those of you who have paid into start-up funds (Allee, Torborg, Schoess, Moline, Rhode, Harrison, Weidell, Boyle) will have access to rounds for practice, zeroing and the match. I have hand inspected and sealed 384 rounds for the Perry event. The balance will be for the team practice in July, and zeroing on your own. I will arrange for shipping if necessary (Boyle). The load consists of;

Mil-spec cases, Wolf primers, 77gr Sierra Match Kings and 23.7gr. Varget. We avg. about 2650 with this load and was in the middle of 23.5 and 24 where the avg. difference was negligible for the extra .5 gr.

If you can make some of this (or close) for our Wednesday practices please do. PLEASE USE 75 or 77 GR BULLETS ONLY!! This is critical to our success with this match. Having to add/subtract for one shooter w/ 68 or 69's is a distraction we can do without.

Also, I purchased a bunch of "E" sillhouettes for team use so if you want some for practice Lemme know. I'll get them to you. This Wed, will be 600 yard practice @ GRRC and we will begin Infantry practice in earnest after completing slow-fire. Be there by 5pm for setting up and the first shots downrange will be no later than 5:30."

Team Coaching Plan for Camp Perry Nationals.

I have not shot or coached a SR team for a while but the basics never change. Below are some things I would like all the members to consider and work on. First & foremost is that we are there to safely have fun and learn. This is a hobby, not D day where we have to be there
Let’s talk about what I will be doing as coach & what you will be doing as the shooter.

There are 6 shooters ands 1 coach. Therefore it’s much better for all to expect coaching the same way for each rather than the coach trying to remember the way 6 different guys want to be coached. When you arrive on the line at each stage I would like you to have the proper zeros on the gun and tell me you do. When done at each stage I would like you to go back to your no wind zero.
The coach is there to read the wind for you and remind you to set zeros. Your job is to shoot good elevation and let the coach tell you what to do for wind. Let’s break it down to the 4 positions......................

Rifle Sights not Plumb ???

Often we hear shooters talking about their windage zeros being different at different distances. It's not uncommon to have a 600 yd no-wind zero that is two min. of angle different than our no-wind zero for 200 yds. There are two things most responsible for these differences due to change in distance.
First is the fact that we mostly shoot Sitting Rapid fire at 200 yds and we all tend to cant (tilt) the gun a little clockwise if we are right handed (counter clockwise if left handed) due to a natural tendancy to lean over a little in the sitting pos. At the 300 and 600 yd line, we are shooting from the prone position, where a right handed person will tend to cant (tilt) a little into his position (counter clockwise) and therefore will have more right windage (or less left windage) on the gun than in the Sitting position.
Second is the possibility that the front sight is not on the gun straight in line with the rear sight and therefore the rear sight when raised and lowered does not follow the plumb line of the front sight. We see this on the target as the strike of the bullets straying farther and farther right or left  as we run the sights up from 200 yd  zeros to 600 or 1000 yd zeros. We cant rotate the rear sight to be at Top Dead Center, on a service rifle, so when shooting prone we must just realize that we may need to add windage as the sights are raised to compensate for the off verticle relation of the rear sights.
In the paragraphs below Capt. Bob Peasley discusses the method of using a thermometer target to determine if this is the case with your sights and what to do about it.
A 100 yd thermometer target would have a 6 in black "bulb" to aim at and then a vertical line running up from that about 2 ft-- assuming you hit the 'bulb" with your 100 yd zeros, then, moving your sights up the usuall 14 min of angle, your hits should fall on the plumb line 14 inches above the first group.

"Kurt:
You may have a better idea or plan but for what it's worth I am passing this along. I have noticed that many of the SR guys are off by as much as 1 or even 2 minutes on their wind zeros. With no sighters this is a big deal as you know. Here is how I obtain a really solid wind zero at 2, 3 & 600.
         I use a thermometer type target at 100 yards and shoot the normal positions. I drop a chalk line from the top right thru the wind line on the bullseye. I put on what I think is my 200 elevation and no wind zero and shoot a 4-5 shot group to see if it is on the vertical wind line. Then put on your 300 elevation and shoot 4-5 more to see where the group is. Then repeat with your 600 elevation. If the 5 shot group is not on the wind line at the 600 elevation start cranking till your group is dead nuts on. Note that setting on the wind knob and mark it. Simple as that, and maybe the guys are doing this or have something even better. They may find that with the 300 elevation they have to put on a couple clicks of wind different that 200 either way to get on the line. Same at 600. Come up from 3 to 600 setting and the group may not follow the vertical line.
        On of my Ar's my wind zero is about 1/2 or 3/4 minute right of the index at 300 and 1/4 or 1/2 minute left of the index at 200. Most likely a position thing but at least I know.
       It's probably not an issue on the AR due to sight design but using this technique I discovered a couple of my M1A's had curved rear sight bases. When it was cranked up it also moved right. So when I went from sitting to 300 I had to go 1 minute left for no wind zero. From 3 to 600 I had to crank on another 2 1/2 or 3 minutes. My first theory was that a wind from the left affected a left hand shooter more than a right handed shooter! Ahhh to be young and foolish again!
      Anyway, feel free to pass this along or not as you see fit. My goal will to be nothing worse than a 9 for wind on everybody's first shot at 600."

Sunday's Service Rifle Leg Match

Jerremy Harrison took full avantage of the beautiful weather and won the Gold Medal at Sundays GRRC Leg Match. Shooters trying to earn points towards the lifetime achiement award of a Distinguished Rifleman's Badge shot 50 rds for record with service rifles Sunday aftenoon. Shooting 3 positions and at distances of 200 to 600 yds, Jeremy scored a 475 and the top prize, with Jim Evenson getting the Silver (473), and Larry Weidel taking the Bronze with a 472.

Phil Klandrude was the top non-Distinguished shooter and thus won a leg and 8 pts after five 2nd place finishes over the last few years. Congradulations to Phil, it was a well earned award.

Today's Service Rifle clinic and M1 Garand match at GRRC were both well attended. Thirty two aspiring shooters benifited from Kurt Borlaug's instruction in the "How to's" of service rifle shooting and an introduction to Highpower competition.

It couldn't have been a nicer day to be at the range pulling some triggers --- 70 deg with just a light breeze to be refreshing. Experienced coaches were assigned to each shooter who talked and coached each shooter through the 50 rd match. Each participant shot 10 rds Standing, then 10 rds rapid fire from the sitting , and the prone position, and 20 rds from the prone position. Every body had a few good shots to brag about and a few bad shots to forget about. I looked to me that everyone was enjoying the experience. We all hope to see them come back to another match in the near future.

There is another Match tomorrow at GRRC. It's the same as it was today. 50 rds over the course for service rifles, starts at about 1100 hrs, earlier in the morning after an 0900 start is a 2 man team match.

GRRC hosts it's annual Service Rifle Clinic this coming Saturday-- May 15th. New Service Rifle Shooters will attend a class on Service Rifle highpower shooting Saturday morning and fire a 50 rd CMP qualifying match following both slow and rapid firing demonstrations. " Boys, Sorry for the duplication of some of you on this missive. GRRC will have it's HP Clinic this Saturday. We are doing a one-day clinic w/ classroom in am and the actual match starts at 12 noon.
I'm asking (pleading begging) for some help with coaches and pits. We are planning to run in three relays as the clinic will shoot concurrently w/ our M1 CMP Match. We request your presence by 11 am.
If you are able and willing please respond by this Wednesday. Last year we had some outstanding help from Non_GRRC members and it made the event go quite smoothly. Remember that these folks are newest of the new and too much info can hamper their experience. Safety is our first concern of course, and the Mn. Rifle Team has a great opportunity to be ambassadors of the sport.

Clinic UP-DATE 5/13 1130hrs
Gentlemen, We will have over 30 clinic students this year. The e-mail traffic over the last few weeks has been heavy.
With this amount of students we believe that the coaches need to distinguish themselves from the students by wearing orange vests......seriously! If you have one of your own great, GRRC has some in the refer in the Island shed. Tom Torborg will be our official "Registrar" in charge of general Cat Herding. He can distribute the vests if you need one.
We need you there by 9am, no later than 10:00. I earlier said 11 but we have upped the time. The actual match starts at 12 noon. Those of you working pits are going to be prepping buckets for the match as well as covering live fire demo.

Sunday-- May 16
GRRC will host the first Leg Match of the season in this area. Nervous Service Rifle shooters will be lining up and starding tall Sunday morning at Gopher's 200 yd line, and anticipating earning some of those elusive leg points, and climb that ladder towards a Distinguished Rifleman's Badge, that every Service rifle shooter aspires to earning. Those shooters that are not in the hunt for Leg points will compete for the Medals and just for fun.

".... don't forget the Leg Match on Sunday. We will run a two-man Hearst Match starting at 9am. A $5 donation is requested for entry and awards will be determined by participation for this event. Pair firing is required at 200 Offhand and 600 slow-fire. You are allowed to coach each other with a scope at 300 rapid.

" I just got the new CMP rules yesterday and they have some important changes/clarifications;

5.10.2 Completed match........2 stages or 20 shots in a PISTOL NMC and three stages or 30 shots in a RIFLE NMC

6.1.1........Rear sight apertures must be round, front sights must be square topped

         6.2.3......after market fixed stocks for AR/M16 type rifles must have at least a 10" length of pull. No collapsible type stocks allowed.
         6.3.1.......on as-issued matches (CMP Games) no bayonets attached
         6.3.2.....M1C and M1D Garands without telescopic sights are allowed provided they comply with other as-issued rules.
         6.9.3....Slings must be attached directly to the front sling swivel; a hook may NOT be used to attach a M1907 pattern OR M1 sling to the front swivel.
         8.1.6....military or former military members who received Purple Hearts that resulted in partial or complete loss of lower extremities will be allowed to remain in position for rapid fire stages provided they load on command and do not shoulder rifles prior to targets rising and begin firing AFTER a standing shooter has begun firing.
         8.5.2......Infantry match......between stages while advancing to next yard line magazines must be removed and bolts must be open.

9.1.4 and 9.1.6...CMP Games..."Coaching" is limited to assisting other shooters into position, adjusting sights and controlling safety.NO USE OF SPOTTING SCOPES ARE ALLOWED FOR CMP GAMES COACHING my emphasis added.

........ Service members w/ Purple Hearts; may remain in position and STILL BE ELIGIBLE for Leg points. This is a new clarification that is different from those who chose to stay in position (generally able-bodied) and would NOT be eligible for points.

Team Update for May 30th Warm-up match

Gents, I have some response from the first missive for the May 30th team warm-up at Nstar. I need a few more confirmations. There may be some mixing of teams if leftovers are odd out. However the GRRC guys gave already have enough shooters signed up for 2 complete teams. We have some new GRRC members who are HP prospects too. So I'm sure we can get at least the two teams. Last fall we had a BALL at the MRP champ. If you missed it it was awesome. One team was made up of completely first timers.
Team shooting is where all the coolest shooters are.
Team shooting will shorten your learning curve.
Team shooting is a bonding event like no other.
Team shooting is where a coach yells in your ear after every shot and says "GOOD RIGHT THERE!!!!!" in rapids.
Get the point?.
All service rifle shooters are encouraged to get on a team............

We will stress Perry type conditions at this match. That means for Perry Team shooters....NO SCOPES AT 600!! We will try this in a low-key environment and run it just like the big boys do. That puts stress on the coach and simple easy concentration on shooter to break good shots....WITH INSTANT CALL FEEDBACK TO COACH!!!

Camp Perry ----From the Team Capt.

Due to our placing last year I WILL NOT (repeat NOT) ask for preferential early relay for Infantry Trophy. People are free to register for the Vintage/ Sprf. match but they must request later pm relay with NO PROMISE OF MAKING IT! In all reality the IT should be done by about 2pm so the chances aof making it our fairly good. The CMP usually offers 100% refunds to shooters who participate in team events instead of sideshow matches. My prioity is the IT match on Friday. As for the M1 match, one more try at it can't hurt.....as long as we're there already.....soooo....yeah I guess I'll shoot it BUT THIS IS THE LAST TIME!!!!

Up-coming: Service Rifle Clinic

" We (Gopher Rifle and Revolver Club) are excited to announce the next Service Rifle Clinic. This year we will be implementing a new teaching format. There will be a brief classroom session in the GRRC Red Shed. We will then proceed to the 200 yard line for the practical portion of the clinic. The Clinic will be held on Saturday, May 15th, 2010 with a 7:30 am roll call. The clinic should be completed around 2:00pm.

The purpose of the clinic is to teach the Fundamentals of High Power Service Rifle Marksmanship. We will cover many topics, including sight alignment, trigger control, breathing, and equipment. The clinic will show the participant how to compete in a High Power Rifle Match; yet will be held in a relaxed and low-pressure environment. After the Clinic, the participant will have enough information to compete in

High Power Rifle matches held all across the country, including the famous National Matches held at Camp Perry, Ohio. During the entire clinic, there will be an experienced rifleman on each firing point to coach, assist and share their expertise. These experienced riflemen will also be the safety officers. We want this experience to be safe and enjoyable. Please bring a pen and notebook to the Clinic because we will be covering a lot of information!
